Ann Arbor waste sorting facility fire causes smoke inhalation injury
A fire broke out at the Material Recovery Facility on Platt Road in Ann Arbor on June 18 at around 8 a.m., originating from the facility’s conveyor belt. The fire complicated efforts to extinguish it but was eventually put out after the burning trash was carried out of the system. One worker was hospitalized due to smoke inhalation, and the fire's cause remains unknown. The Ann Arbor Fire Department noted that this was the first fire incident at the facility in several years.
