I-94 crash statistics reveal dangerous stretches in Macomb County
An investigation into crash data from the Michigan Traffic Crash Facts’ Data Query Tool identified three high-risk 3-mile stretches along I-94 in Michigan. The stretch between Warren Avenue and I-75 in Wayne County had the highest crashes, with 2,381 incidents from 2019 to 2023, primarily due to rear-end collisions. The area between Mt. Elliott Street and French Road, also in Wayne County, recorded 2,138 crashes, with October seeing the highest incidents. The third hotspot, between 9 Mile Road and 12 Mile Road in Macomb County, reported 1,327 crashes, with single-vehicle accidents being the most common. Each location showed peak crash times in the late afternoon, particularly around 3 to 5 p.m.
