Detroit Animal Welfare Group clashes with DNR over habituated deer
A legal dispute has emerged in Macomb County between the Detroit Animal Welfare Group (DAWG) and the Michigan Department of Natural Resources (DNR) over the habituation of wild deer. DAWG, founded by Kelley LaBonty, is accused by the DNR of making deer accustomed to humans, raising concerns about the spread of disease and traffic accidents. Despite having a permit to rehabilitate wildlife, including fawns, charges were brought against DAWG by the DNR, with involvement from the Macomb County Prosecutor's Office. DAWG's attorney, Celeste Dunn, claims the charges are frivolous and politically motivated, calling for them to be dropped.
