Oakland, Macomb counties clash over sewage management

A dispute between Oakland and Macomb counties centers on the overflow of raw sewage into the Red Run Drain during heavy rains, with Macomb accusing Oakland of intentional dumping. Oakland County argues the overflow is due to outdated infrastructure and uncontrollable storm events, not deliberate actions. Both counties acknowledge the system's design flaw and are collaborating with the Great Lakes Water Authority to find solutions, aiming to implement changes by year’s end to prevent future occurrences. The root issue is attributed to antiquated and undersized infrastructure exacerbated by recent climate changes.
