What we learned from Christopher Schurr's testimony in the Lyoya case
Former officer Christopher Schurr, charged with second-degree murder in the shooting of Patrick Lyoya, testified that he acted in self-defense during a traffic stop due to a mismatched license plate. Schurr claimed Lyoya had control of his taser, asserting that he felt threatened and stating, "If I didn’t do what I did when I did it, I wouldn’t be here today." During cross-examination, Prosecutor Chris Becker questioned whether the threat justified deadly force, highlighting that Lyoya never pointed the taser at Schurr, who acknowledged Lyoya's death.
