Michigan inmates accuse guards of illegal video recordings

A $500 million lawsuit has been filed against the Michigan Department of Corrections and other officials, alleging that guards at the Women’s Huron Valley Correctional Facility recorded female inmates in showers and during strip searches. The lawsuit involves 20 women as plaintiffs, but over 500 have reportedly experienced similar violations. Allegations include privacy invasion, emotional distress, sex-based discrimination, and constitutional rights violations. Despite a policy change in March 2025 to prohibit such recordings, the practice allegedly continued.
