Judge declares mistrial of ex-officer who shot Patrick Lyoya

A judge declared a mistrial in the case of Christopher Schurr, a former Grand Rapids police officer charged with second-degree murder for the shooting of Patrick Lyoya, a Congolese refugee, during a 2022 traffic stop. The mistrial was declared after the jury, following six days of testimony from 23 witnesses, including Schurr, was unable to reach a verdict.
