Former educator accused of sexually assaulting children

Lawrence Miles, a 69-year-old former educator, was arrested in Southfield for allegedly sexually assaulting two children under his care, both under the age of ten. Charged with multiple counts of First and Second-Degree Criminal Sexual Conduct, Miles, who has no prior criminal history, allegedly instructed the children not to disclose the assaults. Southfield Police Chief Elvin Barren commended the children's bravery in reporting the incidents and warned there may be additional victims, as Miles previously worked in Kansas, Illinois, and Georgia. Miles is set to appear in court on May 22, 2025.
