Detroit City Council approves funding for new soccer stadium
The Detroit City Council has approved a funding plan to reimburse the Detroit City Football Club for demolishing the vacant Southwest Detroit Hospital, which will be the site of a new stadium. The hospital, empty since 2007, is located near the Corktown and Mexicantown neighborhoods. Demolition is set to begin in August and conclude by spring next year. The new stadium is expected to boost the local sports scene and serve as a venue for community events, contributing to the area's revitalization.
