Concerns rise over radioactive waste set for Wayne County landfill

Residents of Canton Township and nearby communities are opposing the dumping of low-level radioactive waste from New York at the Wayne Disposal landfill in Van Buren Township. Concerns center around potential groundwater contamination affecting the Huron tributaries and the Great Lakes, with residents like Debbie Cartwright fearing the waste's proximity to their homes. A temporary restraining order has been granted, and an important evidentiary hearing is scheduled for May 19, marking a critical point in the ongoing community efforts to halt the waste dumping.
