Concerns rise as Michigan water levels decline
As summer approaches, Michigan residents are concerned about declining water levels in lakes and rivers, notably observed in Lake St. Clair and Lake Michigan-Huron, where levels are below average and last year’s measurements. Factors include mild winters and variable spring rainfalls, deviating from the usual pattern of rising summer levels due to snowmelt runoff. While current levels are not critically low, experts like Keith Kompoltowicz from the U.S. Army Corps of Engineers warn that continued dry weather could lead to prolonged low water scenarios, affecting activities like boating and cargo shipping.
