Teen driver to be sentenced in deadly 105 mph Grosse Pointe Farms crash
In November 2023, a 16-year-old driver in Grosse Pointe Farms was involved in a fatal crash that killed 18-year-old Flynn Michael MacKrell. The teen driver was speeding at over 100 mph on a 25 mph road, lost control, and collided with a utility pole and tree, resulting in MacKrell's death. MacKrell's family sought charges against the driver's mother for negligence, but prosecutors did not pursue this. The driver was charged with second-degree murder, later pleading guilty to manslaughter with an adult designation, and is set to be sentenced on June 13, facing up to 15 years in prison if sentenced as an adult.
