Court order mandates safety repairs, rent relief at troubled Ypsilanti’s apartments

A court order has been issued requiring the New Jersey-based owners of Arbor One Apartments in Ypsilanti to undertake urgent health and safety repairs and offer relocation assistance due to unsafe living conditions, including non-functioning furnaces, mold, and collapsing ceilings. The order also prohibits rent collection until compliance with rental laws is achieved, and tenants breaking their leases are entitled to rent refunds from September 17, 2024. This action follows a joint lawsuit by the Washtenaw County Prosecutor’s Office and City of Ypsilanti, highlighting violations such as inoperable heating, plumbing failures, and pest infestations.
