Why you probably didn't see the Northern Lights this weekend

The forecast predicted summerlike heat and the potential for northern lights due to a G4 geomagnetic storm, as indicated by the Space Weather Prediction Center. However, the storm, which required a southernly BZ value component to affect southeastern Michigan, peaked during the day with a KP index of around eight but dropped to between four and six overnight, making the aurora less visible in the region.
