Bipartisan bill seeks to protect National Weather Service employees

In response to widespread staff shortages at the National Weather Service, Representatives Mike Flood and Eric Sorensen have introduced the Weather Workforce Improvement Act, a bipartisan bill to reclassify meteorologists as critical to public safety, similar to air traffic controllers and FBI agents. This move aims to facilitate quicker hiring for hundreds of vacant positions, ensuring the safety of citizens during severe weather events, with support from the President and the House Appropriations Committee to maintain full funding for the weather service.
