Former Macomb County deputy sentenced for slapping handcuffed 14-year-old

Former Macomb County Sheriff's deputy, Derek Reed, was sentenced to 45 days in jail and 18 months of probation after pleading no contest to charges of willful failure to uphold the law and assault and battery. The charges arose from a 2023 incident when Reed assaulted a handcuffed 14-year-old in his patrol car, an event captured on bodycam footage. Reed was subsequently terminated from his position, and a child abuse charge was dropped as part of a plea agreement.
