Go 4 It: Red Sneakers for Oakley raises food allergy awareness
Local 4's Go 4 It event, in partnership with the American Red Cross and U-M Dearborn, offers a free 50-minute first aid class focusing on EpiPen usage and recognizing severe allergic reactions. Lindsey Spangler, a nurse and advocate with Red Sneakers for Oakley, emphasizes the importance of quick epinephrine administration, citing the tragic loss of Oakley, a child who died from anaphylaxis. The Peoria chapter aims to make communities more allergy-friendly, having already succeeded in Peoria with restaurants and a learning center equipped with EpiPens. The initiative hopes to inspire similar changes in Metro Detroit.
