Michigan youth call on Congress to renew Special Diabetes Program funding
Nearly 2 million Americans, including many children, live with type 1 diabetes, and some are advocating for change in Washington, D.C. The 2025 Children's Congress, organized by Breakthrough T1D, brought children like four-year-old Skye Blue and 16-year-old Ella Boger together to meet lawmakers and push for the renewal of the Special Diabetes Program, which funds critical research. Skye's new Barbie, equipped with a glucose monitor and insulin pump, reflects her reality as a diabetic, while Ella's service dog, Luca, helps manage her condition by detecting blood sugar changes. The event highlights the ongoing challenges and support systems for those living with type 1 diabetes.
