As some states ban fluoridation, experts defend Grand Rapids’ gold standard water
Grand Rapids was the first city in the world to add fluoride to its water supply, back in 1945. Detroit is one of many American cities that do it today to benefit people's dental health. CDC data show that more than 60% of the U.S. population receives fluoridated water. There's been a lot of talk about it due to the U.S. Health Secretary Robert F. Kennedy campaigned against fluoridation. Additionally, two states, Utah and Florida, are banning the process. Now, some experts who support adding fluoride are weighing in on the city whose water is considered the gold standard in America.
