Inclusion and teamwork at heart of Michigan hockey challenge camp for children
Dr. Sarah Dunkel-Jackson, a Michigan State University professor, founded a hockey challenge camp for children with unique learning abilities and medical needs, offering inclusion, confidence, and community. Originating with 20 participants, it has expanded to serve nearly 100 athletes across multiple sessions and sports, earning her the Willie O'Ree Community Hero Award. The camp, supported by the NHL and the Willie O'Ree Community Hero Grant, emphasizes personalized game plans for each skater, fostering a sense of belonging and self-esteem.
