Man who beat 8-year-old stepson to death in Detroit sentenced

Jamarr Hill was sentenced to 18-40 years in prison after pleading guilty to second-degree homicide for the death of his 8-year-old stepson, Adren Thimes Jr., who died from multiple blunt force trauma to the head in November 2024. Hill and the boy’s mother, Kentoria Latricia Moss, were accused of neglecting and abusing Adren, with Moss facing charges of second-degree murder and lying to a peace officer. Family members testified about the couple's lavish lifestyle contrasted with Adren's malnourished state, while Judge John Gillis condemned Hill's actions as the worst he had seen, expressing regret over the limits of the plea agreement. Moss is scheduled for a court examination on August 29.
