Proposal to partially remove Flat Rock Dam advances amid community safety concerns
A proposal to partially remove the Flat Rock Dam, owned by Huron-Clinton Metroparks, has sparked community debate. The plan aims to address safety and enhance wildlife habitats by lowering the structure and installing rock arches, without fully removing the dam. While Metroparks supports the partial removal for safety and ecological reasons, Flat Rock Mayor Steve Beller criticizes the process for excluding the city and questions the urgency, as the dam is classified as high-hazard. The decision follows a feasibility study, emphasizing the balance between safety, recreational activities, and environmental benefits.
