Macomb County school renovation creates secure, collaborative learning spaces

Dekeyser Elementary in Sterling Heights has reopened after a comprehensive redesign, emphasizing modern safety and collaborative learning. The renovation includes secure individual classrooms with advanced safety features, such as lockable doors and secured windows, alongside open "learning communities" for project-based collaboration. Superintendent Robert Monroe outlined the enhanced safety measures, which include layered access controls and an L-shaped main corridor to manage internal movement and protect students. The updated environment, lauded by teachers and parents for its welcoming atmosphere and natural lighting, marks a new chapter for the school community.
