Man charged with murder in mass stabbing at Detroit pool party
A 31-year-old man, Daiwan Lemane Hopson, has been charged with two counts of first-degree murder and two counts of attempted murder following a mass stabbing at a Detroit pool party. The incident, which occurred on August 9 near Seven Mile Road and Fleming Street, resulted in the deaths of Martisha Payne and Jakirea Williams, with two other men sustaining non-fatal injuries. Williams, the party host, was killed while trying to break up a fight. Hopson, who allegedly initiated the stabbing during a backyard argument, was arrested within a week and faces a potential life sentence if convicted.
