Highland Park crews save elderly dog stuck in sinkhole after fence removal
A dog was rescued from a sinkhole near Oakland Avenue and Ferrand Park in Highland Park by a city water crew and animal control officers. The dog, a nearly 15-year-old shepherd mix, was trapped after a part of the family’s fence was removed for water line repairs, allowing her to wander off. Rescuers acted carefully due to the unstable sidewalk, quickly pulling the dog to safety. The owner, who was contacted and arrived shortly after, was reunited with her pet in an emotional embrace.
