Livonia police stop high-speed chase using new Grappler tire net tool

Livonia police effectively ended a high-speed chase on I-96 using the Grappler, a high-tech tool that ensnares a fleeing car’s tires to bring it to a stop. The chase involved a stolen Chevrolet Cruze, with Michigan State Troopers initiating the pursuit in Detroit before Livonia police deployed the Grappler. The device, mounted on a police SUV, successfully immobilized the vehicle despite multiple attempts by the driver to escape, ultimately leading to the arrest of a 27-year-old driver and two female passengers, all of whom faced various charges. This incident marks the second successful use of the Grappler in Livonia, highlighting its potential as a safer alternative to traditional pursuit methods.
