DTE Energy’s smart reclosers aim to reduce outages, protect residents
DTE Energy is implementing smart grid technology with the installation of reclosers to reduce outages and enhance safety. These 800-pound devices quickly identify damage during outages, reroute power to maintain service, and deenergize downed lines to prevent hazards. For residents like Sophia Hardaway, this technology alleviates the frustration of power disruptions. By the end of the year, DTE will have over 1,200 reclosers, which have already prevented over 16,000 outages this year, aiming for a 30% reduction in outages and halving outage duration by 2029.
