Classes at school on Detroit’s west side canceled after stabbing

A school on Detroit’s west side is closed Thursday as police investigate a stabbing. District officials said a student allegedly hurt a classmate at Gompers Elementary-Middle School on Wednesday, Oct. 8. A mother allegedly gave her child a small knife to bring to school. Now, the district is looking into why security measures were not followed.
