Trump threatens layoffs as shutdown impacts federal workers and travelers

The government shutdown, now in its fourteenth day, continues without any signs of resolution, primarily due to a political stalemate over healthcare. Republicans, led by President Trump, demand the government be reopened before any negotiations, while Democrats insist on extending Affordable Care Act subsidies. The shutdown has led to significant disruptions, including layoffs of 4,000 federal workers and affected operations at airports, causing stress for air traffic controllers and other federal employees. Despite assurances that military personnel will be paid, other essential workers like the U.S. Capitol Police face uncertainty, with experts warning of potential economic repercussions if the shutdown persists.
