Hurricane Melissa leaves 600K without power across Jamaica
An estimated 600,000 people in Jamaica are without electricity—and at least 20,000 are in shelters right now. Due to the damage caused by Hurricane Melissa and the winds it brought, up to 185 miles per hour. People are getting a chance to see the damage to their homes—and their communities. One Jamaican official described the devastation this way: "Minister McKenzie says the government has given the okay to utility providers to start restoring power and telecommunications access."
