Time change brings earlier darkness, triggers winter blues for many
The end of daylight saving time leads to earlier darkness, causing many to feel depressed and less motivated. Dr. Susan Albers from the Cleveland Clinic explains this is due to increased melatonin and decreased serotonin, with some experiencing Seasonal Affective Disorder and others the "winter blues." Symptoms include sadness, low energy, and oversleeping. To combat this, Albers suggests healthy eating, exercise, socializing, new hobbies, consistency, and sunlight exposure, possibly using a light lamp. If symptoms persist or worsen, consulting a doctor is advised.
