How Detroit’s Christmas tree is selected and transformed for the holiday season

Detroit’s Christmas tree tradition begins years before the holiday season, deep in northern Michigan near Traverse City. Marty Emery of Dutchman Tree Farms has hand-picked the perfect tree for Detroit for the past 22 years. This year’s 62-foot tree was carefully selected from private land in Mesick, harvested by a small team, and transported 200 miles to Campus Martius Park.
