¡Viva Mexicantown! Main Street Rebrand Fiesta happening this weekend -- what to know
Mexicantown Main Street is getting a fresh, bold new look, and it's all about celebrating the heart of Southwest Detroit, stretching nearly two miles along Vernor Highway and Bagley Street. This rebrand is a community-driven push to show off Mexicantown's unique culture and thriving businesses. The Southwest Detroit Business Association recently unveiled nearly 200 vibrant streetlight banners that bring the neighborhood's diversity and spirit to life. This bilingual campaign also launched a new logo, a refreshed website and a monthly newsletter to keep residents, visitors and businesses connected. The celebration starts Saturday with ¡Viva Mexicantown! -- a family-friendly fiesta from 11 a.m. to 2 p.m. on 23rd Street, right next to the new Taqueria El Rey. Jose Maldonado, the director of Mexicantown Main Street, and Paula Anderanin, owner of Candela, joined Local 4 Live to talk about the celebration.
